This past weekend I camped out at Ricketts Glen State Park and did a really long day of hiking on Saturday. There is a really epic Falls Trail that crosses 20 something different water falls plus plenty of other scenery. It was an epic adventure, despite the 30 degree (F) weather at night. I will share some photos and a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in action!

I was surprised that the campground was full in November, especially considering the weather. I also found it funny that people were setting up camp on Friday when I was going to bed. Really sucks to set up camp in the dark and cold.

Yea I’m surprised at that too. I did enough cold weather camping when I was in scouts. I’m a spring/summer only camper now.

Funny, I am the opposite. I avoid camping in the summer, it is way too hot. I tend to stick to Spring/Fall since I am perfectly fine with cold.

I had to take one for the team and experience it for all of Oppo. Such a tough time, enjoying all of that. What a chore! Plus some fun roads out that way to enjoy in my Miata, although my summer tires were a bit unhappy with the weather.

Glad you didn’t pull a 505 - morphine not found ...
I was just in NW Arkansas with a big group of S2000s - wish I would’ve had taken some time for hiking!

Oh yeah, I was not driving hard at all. Going off like that would scare me to death. Literal nightmare fuel! Having been run off the road last year, I aint taking any chances when the weather is less than ideal.
What are some good driving roads in Arkansas? One of my potential cross-country routes next year goes through that area and I want to avoid interstates whenever possible.

There are so, so many good ones... Will you be coming through on 40?

Oh man that looks like an excellent route to run. I have not really decided yet if I want to run a Southern route or a more Northerly one. It will probably depend more on the season since I will be in a Miata with summer tires, regardless of season. On the Southern Route, I would probably head down through Deal’s Gap and continue West from there. The area between like Tennessee and Colorado is a vast expanse of unknown territory to me so the more road suggestions the better! Since I would probably head through Memphis, I would be near I-40 through Arkansas. That seems to line up nicely with the route you suggested. I would definitely do some hiking and camping while in the Ozark forest as well. No idea how I will find a fun way accross Oklahoma/Kansas/Texas without being killed by a tornado or slogging through hours of straight interstates.

Eureka Springs, the NWestern most point on this map is a funky little town where we usually stay for these trips - high enough elevation that you have some tall pines. Eastern Oklahoma is much greener and hillier than Western OK, so there are some fun roads to be driven, if you have the time. Coming from 40 heading north west of Clarksville- 103 to 215 to 23 is a damn fine stretch of road as well. Just hard to go wrong in this area...

Excellent, you are making the case for the Southern Route for sure! I just hope its not July/August when I am doing the drive because it would likely be unbearably hot. I do have AC that works at least but my goal is coast to coast top down the whole way.
